Preemptive strikes continues causing heavy losses to LTTE -

Sri Lankan security forces continued their preemptive strikes at terror hideouts ahead of Wanni Forward Defence Line (FDL) during last 48 hours causing heavy losses to LTTE, defence sources said.

According to the sources, six LTTE cadres were killed and at least 10 others were injured in the Army artillery fire directed at terror hideouts in the general area Narikkulama during the course of the day (November 9). The number of enemy deaths and casualties were obtained through radio monitoring, sources added.

Separately, on Thursday (November 8), defence sources quoting the same technical sources revealed that four LTTE cadres were killed and six others were injured in a similar artillery shoot taken on terror locations in the area west of Adampan.

Sources further said that troops have suffered no casualties in any of the above-mentioned incidents.

Meanwhile, troops conducting clearing operations immediately ahead of FDL at Thampanai area had ambushed a group LTTE cadres around 4:30 last evening (November 8). Ground sources have confirmed that six LTTE cadres were killed in the incident. Later, the terrorists had retaliated using 81mm mortars causing injuries to four soldiers, sources said. The injured had been taken to General Hospital Vavuniya.

Reports received earlier on the day indicated that eight LTTE carders were killed and many others were injured in separate confrontations occurred in Nawathkulama, and Umerasakulama areas yesterday (November 8). Five soldiers also have suffered injuries in these incidents.

In Pesalai in Mannar, police acting on a civilian information have found 350 liters of Diesel, one fiber glass boat and one outboard mortar destined for LTTE this afternoon (November 9). According to the Media Center for National Security (MCNS), police have made this detection at about 1 p.m.

Elsewhere in the East, troops continuing on clearing operations have discovered five rocket propeller grenades (RPGs), three chargers and one 60 mm mortar bomb this morning (November 9). MCNS said, troops uncovered these items whilst conducting clearing operations in a jungle patch in the Iralakkulama area around 8:30 a.m.
