Melbourne based “Sri Lanka Morning Show” Television
program was awarded “ the prestigious Antenna 2008
award at the award presentation ceremony which was held
recently at the spectacular BMW Edge , Federation Square
Melbourne.
The
Antennas are Australia’s annual National Community
Television Award, recognizing the contribution of volunteer
community television makers from all parts across Australia.
The Antennas celebrate diversity and harmony by bringing
many disparate communities together to celebrate their
cultures, interests and perspectives.
Peter
Batchelor, the Minister for Energy & Resources and
Minister for Community Development awarded this prestigious
Antenna award to Nimal Alwis, the producer of the program
and Derrick Junkeer his co-producer.
Nominees
for 2008 Antenna Awards were Sri Lanka Morning Show, Talent
Pool, Ska Story, VNTV and Pinoy TV. From this category
The Sri Lanka Morning Show won the award.
Nimal
the Programme Director of the Sri Lanka Morning Show had
his first television experience in the Sri Lanka Rupavahini.
Since migrating to Australia he has been working as the
Multimedia Coordinator for Swinburne University in Hawthorn
for nearly 18 years.
Nimal
produces and broadcasts television programs -The Sri Lanka
Morning Show, Sri Lanka Today, One World and Nandana Windana
on Channel 31 weekly basis.
His
team comprises of Nimal Jayalath, Mihiri Dissanayaka and
Happy who undertakes the cooking segment along with the
Co-producer and Host Derrick Junkeer who has many years
of TV experience with all the Commercial Television stations
in Australia.
Community
Television is a not-for-profit television service providing
local and diverse communities the access to television
broadcasting, and presenting news and issues which are
not covered by commercial or state TV stations.
