Sri Lanka Air Force , MI 24 helicopter gun ships carried out close air support missions targeting terror gatherings in general area West of Palampiddi this evening (May 5). According to the Air Force sources, air support was called in by troops engaged in counter terrorist operations on the Vavuniya front, in the Wanni theatre of battle.

The sources further said that two air sorties were conducted between 3.30 and 3.40 pm at terror gatherings located in the area 1.5 km West of Palampiddi.

Meanwhile, ground sources have confirmed that the enemy has suffered heavy casualties in the incident. However, the claim is yet to be verified through technical sources.
