Army and Navy personnel manning the Kondampiddi fishing marshalling point in Mannar thwarted a pre-dawn landward offensive by LTTE today (May 5).

According to latest reports received, LTTE terrorists have launched an indiscriminate fire arms attack at the personnel at around 2.25.a.m. Troops immediately retaliated in a combined effort and chased off the terrorists while taking evasive action to shield fishermen from the LTTE attack.

No civilian casualties were caused, according to sources. A soldier has received injuries and was rushed to the general hospital - Mannar, while another was reported missing. Search operations are now underway, security sources said.
