31 LTTE terrorists killed, over 40 wounded in yesterday's clashes

At least 31 terrorists were killed and over 40 wounded during heavy fighting ensued between troops and LTTE in the Wanni battle fronts yesterday (May 3). According to intercepted LTTE communication 27 terrorists were either believed killed or seriously injured in the confrontations with troops.

9 soldiers have also laid their lives while 19 others were reported wounded during the confrontations erupted in the Mannar, Vavuniya and Welioya fronts on Saturday.

In the Mannar front 20 terrorists were reported killed and similar numbers injured during sporadic fighting ahead of LTTE defences in general areas at Nedunkandal and Pulliyankulama, security sources said.

Meanwhile, in the Welioya front in general areas at Andankulama, North of Janakapura and Kiriibbanwewa, LTTE losses accounted as 10 killed and at least 20 wounded, in addition to 8 soldiers who made their supreme sacrifices during confrontations with LTTE.

According to reports received, an LTTE terrorist was killed in the Vavuniya battle front, while 3 soldiers were also reported wounded. Army infantrymen have made successful forward thrusts into LTTE defences in general areas Palamoddai and Palampiddy, security sources further said.
