The
offensive march towards LTTE strongholds in Wanni continues
further inflicting heavy losses to the enemy. 16 terrorists
were killed while another 19 received injuries due to the
clashes sparked in Jaffna and Wanni theatres yesterday,
May 02.
On
Jaffna theatre, troops attacked at terror gun position and
destroyed it in general area Nagarkovil. Troops confirmed
that 2 terrorists were either killed or wounded due to this
attack.
On
Wanni theatre, in Vavuniya front, 3 soldiers received injuries
exploding anti-personnel mines in north of Kallikulam and
west of Palamoddai areas while conducting mine clearing
operations.
In
Mannar front, heavy fighting erupted between security forces
and LTTE in general area Veddayamuruppu last morning. Troops
confirmed that 12 terrorists were killed while 15 others
received injuries due to gun battle lasted for hours, sources
said. Meanwhile, 3 more terrorists were gunned down by the
army snipers in Veddayamuruppu and Malikaittidal areas.
In
Welioya front, troops have attacked targeting a group of
LTTE terrorists in general area Kokkuthuduvai last morning.
By intercepting terror radio communication, it is learnt
that a terrorist was killed while another 4 suffered injuries.
One T-56 weapon and 2 magazines were found in a subsequent
search operation conducted in the area. In the same area,
5 more terrorists were either killed or wounded due to a
clash occurred last evening.
In
a separate confrontation took place in general area north
of Kiriibbanwewa, 2 soldiers suffered injuries. The damages
caused to the enemy not reported yet.
Troops
on mine clearing operations have unearthed 185 anti-personnel
mines from north of Janakapura and Kokkuthuduvai areas.
Further, 113 anti-personnel mines and 16 Improvised Explosive
Devices were unearthed from the general area Vedukkanry.
Limited
