TROLLEY WHEELS TO PATIENT TRANSPORT

19.5.2008
By Quintus de Zylva (SNNI) Melbourne

AuSLMAT had a request from Dr. Wimalsiri Uluwatte - Visiting Physician at Hambantota General Hospital - for at least some trolley wheels to replace the corroded and broken patient transport trolleys currently in use at Hambantota G.H.

The generosity of hospitals and people in Australia went much further than trolley wheels. The 40 ft container that left Melbourne yesterday was packed with 13 patient transport trolleys, 10 wheel chairs (4 brand new), 5 medication trolleys, 4 bedside tables, 1 commode chair, 23 walking frames/aids, 10 cardiac monitors, 6 Bipap machines, 9 tricycles, 1 pedestal fan, 2 large boxes of cardiac catheters and guide wires,1 e.c.g. machine, 4 new pillows, 1 pram and 73 boxes of miscellaneous items that included surgical instruments, orthopaedic splints, medical books, toys, clothing and teachings aids. All this will be distributed amongst the hospitals in Galle, Matara and Hambantota and the Foundation of Goodness and the Beralihela Maha Vidyalaya.

The Australia Sri Lanka Medical Aid Team will make it's 15th post-tsunami trip to Sri Lanka from the 29th of June and will proudly deliver the goods so generously donated by so many well wishers. The Asian tsunami of December 2004 has had lasting effects on the lives of the peoples in southern Sri Lanka.

AuSLMAT is proud to stand with them in their hour of need which has extended much longer than the two mountainous waves that wrecked havoc within a few minutes.

We are grateful to the many generous folk who have responded to their needs.
