Security
forces personnel engaged in counter terrorist offensives
to liberate Wanni have reached to the Palampiddi junction
this afternoon, May 17.
According
to an initial report received from Vavuniya warfront said
that troops reached to Palampiddi junction without much
resistance as the LTTE terrorists fled the area when the
security forces advanced into LTTE dominated Palampiddi
area. Heavy confrontations took place in this area recently
and 13 bodies of slain LTTE cadre were found in subsequent
search operations conducted, sources further added. In addition,
T-56 weapons, Multi Purpose Machine Guns (MPMG), T-81 weapons
were also found in these search operations, sources added.
Troops
now consolidating the area unearthing hundreds of anti-personnel
mines and booby traps which were laid by the fleeing terrorists.
With reaching the Palampiddi area, the war on terror to
liberate Wanni civilians has also reached to a significance
phase. The brave soldiers fighting against a ruthless terrorist
organization, LTTE, in Vavuniya front are moving further
towards LTTE terrain.
