Racket of sending steel balls to LTTE revealed

Steel balls concealed in Paint containers sent to North by a Businessman in Colombo.

The Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) launched a full-scale investigation into a clandestine operation where steel balls concealed in 'Paint' containers were sent to the North.

According to Police, these steel balls are used in manufacturing bombs to intensify the disaster caused by the explosion.

The secret place located in Peliyagoda was a company registered for manufacturing paints and other crude- waste based products, which belonged to a rich Tamil businessman. According to information received so far the owner of the company was a regular visitor to foreign countries.

Initial ingestions have revealed that the existing policy of the LTTE of charging taxes from every vehicle that entering areas controled by the them, has not been applicable for these vehicles that go into Killinochchi.

Also it is reported that this company used to sell petroleum based tar at a higher rate to the retail buyers which are obtained from the Petroleum Corporation. The Police are carrying a separate investing to this incident as well.

The Police teams investigating the incident are of the view that the owner of this company continued to maintain a long term relationship with the LTTE terrorist and may have assisted the terrorists to carry attacks in the south.
