Velayutham, currently the nominee of the EPDP
to the APRC. She was the legal adviser to the Douglas
Devananda, Leader of the EPDP, and was a lawyer and forceful
Human Rights Activist.
She
was assassinated by suspected LTTE gunmen on 13 May at
her mother’s house located in Karaveddy.
In
a statement released by Ministry of Social Services and
Social Welfare, said that the remains of Late Miss Maheshwari
Velayutham, Advisor to Douglas Devananda, Minister of
Social Services and Social Welfare and General Secretary
of EPDP, will be kept at EPDP Head office, 121, Park Road,
Colombo 05, for public to pay their last respects.
The
remains will be then taken to Borella General Cemetery
for cremation after performance of religious rites, at
Borella Jayaratne Florists.
