18 LTTE terrorists killed, 6 wounded in confrontations

18 LTTE terrorists were reported killed and more than 6 wounded in yesterday's (May 9) fighting erupted between troops and LTTE at the Wanni and Northern fronts, security sources said.

In the Jaffna theater of battle, a soldier was reported wounded due to an anti-personal (AP) mine explosion in Muhamalai.

Meanwhile, in the Vavuniya front 2 soldiers have laid their lives and another reported wounded due to an IED explosion in general area Palampiddi. Separately, 3 other terrorists were also reported killed in sporadic confrontations with troops in the same area, security sources said.

Also troops have recovered 82AP mines and 5 IEDs during search operations conducted in general area Palampiddi. A soldier was reported wounded due to an AP mine explosion in general area Muttramadittakulama, according to sources. Meanwhile, an LTTE terrorist was also killed, while another was reported wounded during a confrontation with SLA in Palamoddai.

In the Mannar front, 7 LTTE terrorists were reported killed in SLA sniper attacks in general area Chalampaikulama. Another terrorist was also killed sniped in general area Minukkad, security sources said. Meanwhile, troops have recovered a pressure mine and 3 booby traps while engaged in clearing operations in the newly captured Nadunkandal area, according to reports received.

On the Welioya battle front, 6 terrorists were reported killed, another 5 injured during confrontations between troops and LTTE, Wanni sources said. Troops have also recovered 170 AP mines during separate search operations conducted in general areas North of Janakapura and North of Kiriibbanwewa.
