TEST CRICKET COMES TO GALLE AGAIN
Quintus de Zylva-Sri Lanka Cricket Foundation of Victoria- (SNNI)

Sri Lanka will play their first test match against England at the Nawaloka Cricket Stadium in Galle from the 1st – 5th of December 2007. This was the cricket ground that caused world-wide sympathy when it was destroyed by Tsunami on Boxing Day 2004. It's idyllic location beside the Galle Fort ensured that it would be restored and thanks to the hard work of the Interim Committee lead by Jayantha Dharmadasa, Galle will host the first test match in a three test series against England later this year. The second test will be played in

Colombo from the 9th-13th of December and the third test will be played in Kandy from the 18th-22nd of December.

England will play five ODI matches against Sri Lanka in October this year. The first three ODI's will be played at Dambula on the 1st, 4th and 8th of October followed by matches in Colombo on the 10th and 13th.

The Galle Cricket Stadium was described by Shane Warne as one of the best in the world and it held fond memories for him. He took his 500th wicket at Galle and is shown here having his stretching exercises just before the test match at Galle. Ricky Ponting is shown waiting for Harshan Tillekeratne to toss the coin at the start of the last test match that was played at Galle before Tsunami 2004.
