One army soldier suffered minor injures when the LTTE terrorists opened fire at a group of army soldiers at Neelapola in Trincomalee last evening (Monday the 7th of May). The attack took place around 7.15p.m as the army was conducting a foot patrol in the area. The soldiers retaliated to the terror attack effectively forcing the terrorists to withdraw. Two T-56 machine guns left by the fleeing terrorists were found during the subsequent search.
Separately, troops conducting clearing operations in the Pankulam area in Trincomalee, found stock of ammunitions last evening. The stock included ammunitions for 12.7mm machine guns, Multi Purpose Machine guns and T-56 riffles.
In Jaffna, civilians continue their corporation with the SL security forces by providing valuable information on hidden terror arms in the area. Yesterday, the troops found 10Kg claymore mine along with a detonator code and a remote controlled device form Saravitam Lane in the Jaffna town. The troops made this recovery at 3.30p.m on a tip off given by civilians in the area. |
