Security forces personnel on duty at picket point near the 13th mile post on the Vavuniya - Mannar main road confronted with the LTTE terrorists this evening, Tuesday the 29th of May.

The incident took place at Sarambakulam in Vavuniya at 5:10 p.m., defence sources said.

An Army soldier who sustained injuries due to the incident was rushed to the base hospital in Vavuniya and later he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing medical treatment, defence sources further said.

The LTTE terrorists fled in the face of effective retaliatory fire power and casualties to the LTTE not yet being reported, sources further added.
