The LTTE terrorists attacked the Navy detachment at Delft in a fleet of 18 boats and Navy sailors sank 4 of the LTTE's suicide boats in attempts to repulse the ambush. Intercepted LTTE communication revealed that 18 Sea Tiger cadres including 4 leaders had been killed and another large number injured, the Navy confirmed.
The Air Force engaged withdrawing Sea Tiger boats destroying two and disabling another.
According to Media Center for National Security Delft Island is totally under the control of the Sri Lanka Navy. All the Islets in the Jaffna peninsula are under the control of the Security forces. The Navy reiterates that no naval craft were destroyed or damaged in the attack as claimed by pro LTTE media.
LTTE terrorists are carrying out a false propaganda to exaggerate the number of security personal deaths as the Tigers use these type of tricks to create a wrong image to the public of the incidents and to exaggerate their strength at war
Although the LTTE is claming that the total figures of the naval deaths is 35 the military officials confirm that there were no even such number of navy sailors attached in to the detachment.
The detachment in Delft is considered as a smaller naval detachment compared with the other naval units operated in the Northern part of the country which comprises many small islets being Delft the largest. |
