SL army was compelled to close down the Omanthai entry-exit point this evening (22) as the LTTE terrorists opened fire at a civilian vehicle plying from uncleared to cleared area.

Two Tamil youth who were in the vehicle told defence officials that the LTTE terrorists had not allowed them to come into the government controlled area and opened fire at them as they had sped towards the SL army check point.

Meanwhile, 17 Lorries filled with essential items sent to uncleared areas through the road block were not allowed to enter into the LTTE dominated area by the terrorists. According to the civilian sources the LTTE is trying to create an artificial food shortage in the area to force the civilians to join the outfit.
