Security forces in a search operation after a confrontation in Thoppigala area with LTTE terrorists recovered five dead bodies of LTTE cadres. The bodies were later handed over to the Maha Oya Hospital by the security forces.

Further in search operation five assault rifles, pair of binoculars belonging to LTTE terrorists were also found by the troops.

Although only five bodies were recovered the casualty figure on the LTTE is reportedly high according to LTTE communications intercepted by the Army. Several LTTE cadres died and few others received serious injuries.

Meanwhile the Media Center for national Security states that in Kayts Island the Sri Lanka Navy recovered a T 56 assault rifle; two hand grenades and magazine resulted after a retaliatory attack by the Navy to neutralize a LTTE terror attack at a Navy foot petrol.

In Mannar, the security forces had to shut down the Entry/Exit point at Uilankulam in order to ensure the security of the area. This was the second time that the Entry/Exit point was closed due to LTTE mortar attacks. Civilians who travel through this Entry/Exit Point face hardships due to temporary closure of the point.
