Chairman of the Standard News paper company ltd was arrested on 30th May by the Terrorist Investigation Division while he was being treated at the Nawaloka hospital. Sources say Allas was questioned before arresting him.
Tiran Allas's attorneys Udaya Gammanpila, Chanaka Ranasinghe, Sripathi Suriarachchi and Nalin Ladduwahetti who was present at the location said, Colombo Chief Magistrate Sarojani Kusala Weerawardena arrived in the hospital and granted permission to arrest Allas.
A specialty is that Udaya Gammanpila of JHU appearing for Allas.
Speaking to 'LeN' father of Tiran Allas, R.I.T. Allas said Tiran was being treated for mental stress and tension by specialist Dr. Shan Fernando and when the TID officers arrived at the hospital, Fernando has told them that Allas was in a critical condition and his situation could turn fatal if he was stressed further.
The terrorism investigation division investigated the CBN institute which belongs to Tiran Allas, on the charges of granting funds for the LTTE. Allas who held the Chairman post of the Air port services department and was stripped off from his post when Samaraweera was removed from his ministry.
The TID had earlier questioned Allas regarding the incdent earlier but had not questioned Allas for a long time since then. And the questioning began again when Samaraweera refused to accept the ministerial portfolios offered to him by the president.
The bank accounts of the Standard newspaper was frozen and the publishing of the papers has also been halted due to this.
