Sri
Lanka has been named as an alternate venue for the 2008
International
Cricket Council's (ICC) Champions Trophy, which is to be
held in Pakistan September 19-27.
"As of now, the ICC Champions Trophy will be held in
Pakistan in September, subject to a full
and independent assessment of the security situation in
June," ICC president-elect David Morgan
said at a press conference here Tuesday after the meeting
of its executive board.
ICC
media manager James Fitzgerald said Sri Lanka has been kept
as a back-up if the conditions
were not conducive for holding the tournament in Pakistan.
