Sri Lanka named back-up venue for ICC Champions Trophy
18.3.2008

Sri Lanka has been named as an alternate venue for the 2008 International Cricket Council's (ICC) Champions Trophy, which is to be held in Pakistan September 19-27.

"As of now, the ICC Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan in September, subject to a full
and independent assessment of the security situation in June," ICC president-elect David Morgan
said at a press conference here Tuesday after the meeting of its executive board.

ICC media manager James Fitzgerald said Sri Lanka has been kept as a back-up if the conditions
were not conducive for holding the tournament in Pakistan.
