Army says 38 terrorists killed in yesterday's clashes

The Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) says that 38 terrorists were killed in yesterday's (March 6) clashes between army and LTTE in the Northern defences.

In the Wanni theatre of battle, troops had several confrontations with LTTE terrorists on the Vavuniya, Mannar and Welioya battlefronts during the day.

On the Vavuniya front, troops attacked LTTE positions in the Kallikulama, Periyapandivirichchan, and Mundimurippu areas and claimed 7 terrorists killed. A soldier suffered injuries in one of the incidents.

On the Mannar front, troops continued their onslaught at the terrorists' defences in Parappakandal and Adampan areas right throughout the day. Ground troops have claimed that 12 terrorists were killed during the clashes occurred in the Parappakandal area. Meanwhile, 3 soldiers suffered injuries during the confrontations that took place in Adampan area.

On the Welioya front, troops attacked an LTTE strong point located in the Kokkutuduvai area, in the Mullaithivu district last morning. Ground troops have claimed that 12 terrorists were killed and the strong point was destroyed in the incident. Also, 2 soldiers were killed in action and 10 others reported injured.

In a separate incident in the Andankulama area on the same day morning, troops killed 4 terrorists in a confrontation. Also, 2 soldiers were killed and 2 suffered injuries in the same incident. Meanwhile, 3 other soldiers were reported injured in a similar incident occurred in the Thadduthadamalai area.

In the Jaffna theatre of battle, troops attacked terrorists' position in the Nagarkovil and Killali areas during the day. Troops claimed that 3 terrorists were killed while one soldier was injured during these incidents.

Limited operations are continuing.
