Wanni liberation operation continues inflicting heavy damages to LTTE

The military reports received from the battlefronts in the North indicates that Sri Lanka security forces are moving towards LTTE territory further inflicting damages to the enemy in offensive military operation launched to liberate Wanni region from terrorists' hold yesterday, March 05.

In Jaffna theatre of battle, snipers deployed at Muhamalai front gunned down two terrorists last afternoon, March 5. Meanwhile, two army personnel also received injuries due to an explosion of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in general area Muhamalai in morning hours yesterday.

In Wanni theatre of battle, clashes sparked between LTTE and troops in general areas Karappalikulam, Udayanatankulam, Venkalacchedkulam and Umayaratuwarankulam in the Vavuniya front, the military reports said.

In a confrontation took place at Karappalikulam two LTTE terrorists were killed while two others received injuries. The clash erupted at 8.50 a.m and two security forces personnel also sustained injuries.

In Udayanatankulam, troops launched an attack targeting a group of LTTE terrorists around 11.10 a.m and ground troops confirmed that 4 terrorists were killed in this attack. In the same area, 2 army soldiers received injuries due to an explosion of anti-personnel mine around 11.30 a.m on the same day.

Two more LTTE cadres were gunned down by the snipers deployed in general area Venkalacchedkulam in two separate shooting incidents took place at 9.10 a.m and 3.15 p.m. In the same area, due to a confrontation took place around 10.35 a.m, 5 LTTE terrorists were killed. An army soldier also received injuries, reports further said.

Troops ambushed an LTTE movement in general area Perayavalayankaddukulam killing 5 LTTE cadres. One soldier also received injuries in this incident took place at 11.10 a.m. In the same area, snipers targeted a terror group comprising three cadres around 4.30 p.m.

In Umayaratuwarankulam, 6 LTTE cadres were killed when the troops launched a fresh attack targeting LTTE bunkers.

Meanwhile, troops launched an attack observing a suspicious terror movement in general area Nochchikulam. The clash erupted at 7.55 p.m. the report said. A body of slain LTTE cadre and few other warlike items which were left away by the fleeing terrorists were found in a subsequent search operation conducted in the area. Following items were among the recoveries.

a. 01 x Silva Compass.

b. 01 x pressure mine.

c. 03 x SFG hand grenades.

d. 01 x magazine with 30 x ammunitions.

e. 02 x cyanide capsules.

f. 01 x belt order.

g. Few warlike items

In the Mannar front, army snipers deployed in Adampan, Mantota and Manikaittidal gunned down 6 LTTE cadres right throughout the day.

In Mantota, troops attacked at terror bunker defences with artillery support around 7.30 a.m yesterday. By intercepting LTTE communication channel it is revealed that 5 terrorists were killed in this attack. One soldier made his supreme sacrifice while 3 others received injuries.

Troops attacked LTTE bunkers in general area Manikaittidal and by intercepting terror communication, it is revealed 6 cadres were killed in this incident took place at 9.45 a.m.

Meanwhile, on information received on civilian source, 3 cans containing 180L Diesel which believed to be sent to un-cleared area were uncovered by the troops in general area Chavalkadu last afternoon.

In Weli-Oya front, 12 LTTE terrorists were killed in a confrontation took place at 10.20 a.m in general area Kokkutuduvai. In the same area, an LTTE cadre was killed when troops attack at terror bunker around 7.45 a.m. Two more terrorists were killed and another two received injuries due to same type of attack took place at 10.30 a.m in general area Kokkutuduvai. Three soldiers also received injuries due to this confrontation. Separately, Five more terrorists were killed by the troops in a confrontation took place around 6.25 p.m, the report stated.

Troops ambushed an LTTE movement in general area Andankulam and ground troops confirmed 12 cadres were killed in this attack took place at 3.25 p.m.

In a separate confrontation took place around 7.15 a.m in general area Kadduttaddamalai, troops confirmed 6 cadres were killed. A body of slain LTTE cadre was also uncovered by the troops later.

One army soldier received injuries in a confrontation took place at 1.30 p.m in general area Janakapura.

In Trincomalee, on information received from civilian, troops uncovered following item from general area Sivapuram last morning.

a. 01 x claymore mine

b. 06 x hand grenades

c. 01 x LTTE modified pistol

d. 80 x 7.62 x 39 mm ammunitions

e. 04 x MPMG ammunitions
