Troops launched extensive search operations
in general area Elavankulama, North of Puttalam this morning
(March 5) following an LTTE grenade launcher fire at the
'Causeway' Army detachment in the borders of Wilpattu national
sanctuary, yesterday SLA sources said.
SLA
immediately neutralized the LTTE attack with stiff retaliatory
fire on Tuesday (4) evening at Elavankulama, military sources
reported.
No
damages were caused to own troops, sources said.
According
to Army sources, a search operation was lead ahead of the
Elavankulama area towards Wilpattu, at around 8.45a.m on
Wednesday. "We are in search for LTTE elements that
might have infiltrated into the area through Wilpattu jungle
following heavy beating by troops at the Mannar and Vavuniya
fronts", military officials said.
Meanwhile,
two soldiers received injuries due to an explosion of Improvised
Explosive Devices (IED) while they were on clearing operations
and rushed to the Puttalam hospital for medical treatments.
These
elements are capable of disrupting normalcy in the area
with cowardly attacks at both civilians and security forces.
Earlier, LTTE has launched genocidal attacks at villages
bordering Wilpattu killing innocent civilians including
women and children, the sources further added.
