Democratic
group of the United National Party says it is pleased
with opposition leader Ranil Wickremasinghe’s decision
to support the implementation of the 13th amendment to
the constitution.
In
a media briefing held yesterday, at the UNP Headquarters,
Minister Rajitha Senarathne said a political settlement
to the north east problem should be brought while defeating
terrorism.
The
biggest challenge faced by the country in present days
is to create a favorable atmosphere for the people in
the north and east to live freely.
The
Minister said there are other important issues rather
than the implementation of the 17th constitutional amendment.
He pointed out that the public will be able to reap full
benefits of this amendment only if terrorism is wiped
out from the country.
