Deputy Chairman of Monaragala Pradesheeya
Sabha A.N. Muthulingam were shot dead by an unidentified
gunman this evening (March 29). According to the police
sources in the area, the incident was occurred around 6.15.p.m
when the victim was at his residence in the Monaragla town.
Mr.
Muthulingam was a medical doctor by profession and was attending
his work when he was shot, said the sources. The assassin
who said to have come in a van shot the victim using a pistol,
sources added. Hospital sources in Monaragla said the victim
succumbed to the injuries after admitting to the hospital.
The
victim aged 54 years was a father of three children. He
was an active supporter of ruling United Peoples' Freedom
Alliance party and its campaign against terrorism.
During
past few months LTTE terrorists carried out several bomb
attacks in Monaragala district killing dozens of innocent
civilians and injuring many others. Also, LTTE, a terrorists
outfit operates on tribalism has killed large number of
moderate Tamil politicians during its three decades of terrorist
campaign against Sri Lankan citizens.
