As clashes between Security Forces
and LTTE terrorists develop in Muhamale and Nagarkovil areas,
Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka
visited Jaffna Saturday (22) morning and met senior ground
commanders.
Reviewing
the security situation in Jaffna and getting first hand
knowledge of military operations against terrorists was
the purpose of the Commander's visit.
Major
General G.A. Chandrasiri, Commander Security Forces Headquarters
Jaffna (SFHQ-J), who received the visiting Army Chief, at
the Palaly airport presented a full account on the security
arrangements and welfare activities carried out for the
civilians by the Jaffna troops.
Commanders
of Divisions, Brigades and Units briefed the security situation
in their respective areas during their meeting with Lt.
Gen. Sarath Fonseka.
Army
Commander, after a thorough study of the briefings, gave
further instructions to all formation commanders present
on the occasion.
This
was the Commander's first visit to Jaffna after his India
tour.
