Military reports received from Northern
battlefronts indicate that 29 terrorists were killed and
at least 25 others were injured in the clashes continued
along the Wanni and Jaffna Forward Defence Lines (FDLs)
yesterday (Mar 16). Also, 3 soldiers sacrificed their lives
and 8 soldiers suffered injuries during these operations
aimed at liberating Wanni region from the terrorist clutches.
In
the Wanni theatre of battle, clashes continued on the Mannar,
Vavuniya and Welioya battlefronts throughout the day.
On
the Welioya battlefront, troops advancing towards the LTTE
strongholds in Mulaithiuvu district had several confrontations
in general areas of Andankulama and Kiriibbanweva during
the course of the day. According to the military reports
11 terrorists were killed and at least 20 others were injured
during these clashes. Also, 2 soldiers were killed and 5
suffered injuries on the same battlefront, the reports further
revealed.
On
the Mannar battlefront, military reports indicate that 7
terrorists were killed during yesterday's clashes. Snipers
deployed in the Kappankulama areas have claimed that 3 terrorists
were killed while another 4 terrorists reported to have
killed in a clash occurred in the Parayakulama area. Meanwhile,
one solder was killed due to terrorists' small arms fire
in the general area Parayakulam and 2 others suffered injuries
in a similar incident in the Adampan area.
On
the Vavuniya front, army snipers deployed in the Pandivirichchan
area has claimed one terrorist was killed last afternoon.
Also, in two separate clashes occurred in the Vilattikulama
and North of Kallikulama areas, LTTE radio transmission
have revealed that 3 terrorists were killed and 5 others
suffered injuries. One soldier was also suffered injuries
due to an explosion of improvised bomb at Sinna Pandivirichchan.
Meanwhile,
on the Jaffna theatre of battle, counter terrorists operations
were mainly concentrated on the Muhamalai battlefront during
the daytime yesterday. According to the military reports,
2 terrorists were reportedly killed by the snipers and 5
others were killed during army offensives at terrorists'
defences. No casualties were reported to own troops in the
Jaffna defence.
