Seruwila declared world heritage site

The Government, along with the UNESCO, has taken steps to construct the Seruwila Raja Maha Viharya's Museum, following the announcement that Seruwila has been named a World Heritage Site.
Bank of Ceylon has stepped for to provide financial assistance for the project, while the Government along with UNESCO has allocated funds over Rs.100 million to develop the site.

An official ceremony was held at the Seruwila Temple on Saturday (08) to declare Seruwila as a world heritage site in a gazette and to initiate work on the Museum.

Chief Incumbent Venerable Saranakitti Thera delivering the anusasana observed that the wise have joined President Mahinda Rajapaksa to develop the country while others attempt to cripple progress.

The Thera pointed out that it is the duty and responsibility of all to support the President in this mission.
