The
military reports received from the forefront say 22 LTTE
terrorists were killed while another 6 were wounded during
the clashes erupted between army and LTTE in the Northern
defences yesterday, March 08. Further, 18 more LTTE cadres
were either killed or wounded due to effective fire power
launched by the troops, the reports further said.
Meanwhile,
4 army soldiers made their supreme sacrifice while another
7 received injuries during yesterday's clashes.
In
Jaffna theatre of battle, on the Muhamalai front, 2 LTTE
terrorists were killed when the troops ambushed an LTTE
movement last morning. One soldier also received injuries
in this attack. On the same front, around 12.30 p.m. army
snipers gunned down an LTTE terrorist ahead of the defence
line.
In
the Wanni theatre of battle, troops had several confrontations
with LTTE terrorists on the Vavuniya, Mannar and Welioya
battlefronts during the day.
On
Vavuniya front, troops attacked at LTTE bunker defences
and it is confirmed that 6 terrorists were killed while
6 others wounded due to this attack in morning hours yesterday.
Army snipers deployed in general area Periyavalayankaddukulam
gunned down a terrorist around 8.15 a.m. Separately, 3 more
terrorists were killed in a confrontation took place at
4.40 p.m. in Karampaikkulam area. One soldier also sustained
injuries in this confrontation. Meanwhile, in the same general
area, 6 more terrorists were killed in a clash sparked around
4.45 p.m. yesterday.
On
Vavuniya front, one soldier was killed while another injured
in a confrontation occurred in general area Udayanatankulam
last morning. Meanwhile, another soldier was killed while
other two received injuries due to the explosions of anti-personnel
mines in general areas Udayanatankulam and Svlainamamthmadu.
Troops
on clearing operation in general area Kollmddai have uncovered
following items from a newly captured LTTE bunker.

On
Mannar front, 4 LTTE terrorists were killed by the army
snipers deployed in general areas Perankamam, Malikaittia
and Palaikuli during the day. Meanwhile, two soldiers were
killed due to indiscriminate mortar fire launched by the
terrorists in Malikaittial and Adampan areas.
Meanwhile,
on Mannar front, troops are consolidating defences in general
area Malikaittidai, east of Manthai, following a massive
confrontation erupted yesterday. LTTE received considerable
damages in two confrontations erupted, one in morning hours
and another in afternoon. Latest report received from battle
front said that filling station and few buildings were among
the newly captured LTTE fortifications in this area.
On
Welioya front, 18 LTTE cadres were either killed or wounded
in confrontations took place in Kokkuthuduvai, Janakapura
and Andankulam area yesterday as reported from the forefront.
Two soldiers sustained injuries in two incidents took place
at Janakapura and Andankulam, the report further said.
Limited
operations are continuing.
