Foreigner detained at the Immigration Department detention
camp in Mirihana had stabbed two Police constables yesterday
causing them grievous injuries.
Police
spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunesekera confirming the incident
said that the offender who was believed to be an Arab national
had stabbed the two Policemen during one of their periodical
visits to the camp without any provocation. According to
sources, the foreigner had been detained on charges of violating
Sri Lankan Immigration regulations.
Also
according to unconfirmed sources the Foreigner is believed
to be suffering from a mental illness which might have caused
him to act in such a manner. Meanwhile, SSP Gunesekara said
that the Police had launched an investigations into the
incident.
