24.6.2008

The price of diesel will be still higher than the CPC prices.

The Lanka Indian Oil Company (LIOC) has announced that it will reduce the price of diesel by Rs. 10 per litre with effect from midnight Wednesday.

LIOC Managing Director K. Ramakrishnan said they are reducing the price by Rs. 10 per litre, though the Sri Lankan government has requested them to reduce it by Rs. 20. “We cannot do that as we would suffer heavy losses,” he said.

The price of diesel will be still higher than the (Ceylon Petroleum Corporation) CPC prices. The CPC is currently selling diesel at Rs. 110 per litre while the new LIOC price will be Rs. 120 per litre.

Mr. Ramakrishnan also revealed that the decision was taken following Petroleum Minister A.H.M. Fowzie’s advice.
