Troops
continued their multi front assaults at LTTE defences in
the Wanni, causing heavy damages to the terrorists in yesterday's
(June 18) operations. According to the finalized military
reports received from the warfronts in Jaffna and Wanni
theaters of operations, 5 terrorists were killed, 11 sounded
and 42 more were recorded as either killed or wounded. Also,
3 soldiers laid down their lives in the battlefield while
15 suffered injuries.
In
the Jaffna Theater of battle, troops attacked a group of
LTTE terrorists detected ahead of Muhamalai defence early
last morning. Ground sources confirmed that 2 terrorists
were either killed or wounded . Meanwhile, 2 soldiers suffered
injuries due to anti personal (AP) mine explosion occurred
in the same area during morning hours.
In
the Wanni theatre of operations, troops confronted with
a group of terrorists in the Periyamadhu area last evening.
A soldier was killed and 5 others injured in this incident
while no details available on terror casualties. Meanwhile,
2 soldiers suffered injuries due to an explosion of an improvised
explosive device (IED) in the Chiraddikulama area in same
evening while another soldier was injured in an AP mine
explosion occurred in the Kayamoddai in the morning.
Troops
engaged in clearing operations, removed 119 AP mines from
Periyamadhu area during the day.
On
the Welioya front, troops marching ahead in the Mulaithiuvu
jungles had a series of clashes in the North of Janakapura
and North of Kiriibbanwewa during the day and claimed 3
terrorists killed , 11 wounded and 40 others were killed
or wounded. In addition, one soldier was killed 4 others
suffered injuries during these clashes. Troops captured
an LTTE bunker located in the North of Janakapura and found
2, T-65 riffles, 3000 ammo, 25 hand grenades and 6 RPG rounds,
during subsequent search operations. Further, during the
search operations, troops removed 25 AP mines, 2 trapped
mortars and 2 hand grenades.
On
the Mannar front , troops ambushed a group of LTTE terrorist
in the Parappakadaththan area last evening and claimed 2
terrorists were killed.
Limited
