military reports received from the battlefront yesterday
(June 6) indicated that the terrorist had continued to suffer
heavy losses in the face of army onslaught at the Wanni
LTTE strongholds. According to the reports, 13 terrorists
had been killed and 15 others wounded while 20 more had
been recorded as killed or wounded. Also, 11 soldiers suffered
injuries during these battles.
In
the Jaffna theatre of battle, troops attacked terror positions
in the Ponnar, Nagarkovil, Eluthumadduwal and Muhamalai
areas throughout the day and claimed 2 terrorists were killed
and 3 others wounded and 5 more were recorded as either
killed or wounded. Also, 2 soldiers suffered injuries in
two separate incidents occurred in Ponnara and Muhamalai
areas.
On
the Wanni theatre of battle, troops fighting on the Vavuniya
front attacked terrorist positions in the Periyamadhu Kovitkunchukulam,
Chiraddikulam, and Palamoddai areas and claimed 4 terrorists
were killed and 12 wounded. Also, 4 soldiers suffered injuries
in one incident occurred in the East of Periyamadhu area
last evening while another suffered injuries due to anti
personal (AP) mine explosion last afternoon. Another soldier
suffered injuries due to improvised bomb explosion West
of Kovitkunchukulam area on the same day morning. Following
an attack at a terror stronghold in the Chiraddikulam area
troops uncovered one T-56 riffle, one Rocket Propeller Grenade
(RPG), and two hand grenades along with other military ware.
On
the Mannar front, troops had confrontations in the Alankaulama,
Kurunkallimottai , and Nedunkandal areas and claimed 3 terrorists
were killed and 2 others were either killed and wounded.
3 soldiers also suffered injuries in these incidents. Troops
captured an LTTE bunker in the Nadunkandal area last evening
and found one trapped 60mm mortar bomb and 106 AP mines.
On
the Welioya front, troops had series of confrontations in
the North of Janakapura, North of Kiriibbanwewa and Andankulama
areas during the day and reported to have killed 4 terrorists.
Also, 13 others were recorded as either killed or wounded.
Meanwhile , troops conducting clearing operations removed
55 AP mines during the day.
