A lorry loaded with electrical items and plying towards Vavuniya was arrested today (June 18) at the Medawachchiya police road block in Vavuniya at around 4.35.p.m.

According to the Medawachchiya police, the driver and lorry was taken into custody after 1300 battery cells including wristwatch batteries were found neatly concealed inside table fan boxes when searched by the personnel on duty at the road block.

The lorry has arrived from Colombo and was plying towards Vavuniya, Police sources said. Further investigations are underway, the Medawachchiya police sources added.
