With
the addition of two new divisions to the Vavuniya front,
troops have set their main thrust in the Wanni theatre in
the west of A-9 road. According to the military reports
received from all battlefronts, indicated that 29 terrorists
were killed, 19 others wounded while 18 more were recorded
as either killed or wounded during yesterday's (June 15)
clashes.
On
the Vavuniya, front troops belonging to 57, 61 and 62 divisions
had a series of clashes with the terrorists at several locations
during the course of the day and claimed 13 terrorists were
killed and 3 others wounded. Also, one soldiers was killed
and 8 others wounded during these clashes.
In
the Navatkulama area, troops attacked a group of terrorists
last evening using small arms and RPG and claimed one LTTE
cadre was killed. Also , troops removed 3 AP (Anti Personnel)
mines during search operations in the area.
In
a similar incident occurred in the Weerapirayan area troops
claimed 2 terrorists killed in the same evening. Meanwhile,
at Navvi , troops attacked an LTTE bunker last evening and
confirmed 3 terrorists were killed.
Separately
in the Kovitkunchu Kulama area , troops clashed with the
terrorists at 3 occasions and claimed 7 terrorists killed
and 3 others wounded. During the subsequent searches, troops
found 3 bodies of LTTE cadres along with three T-56 riffles
and one radio communication set. Also, one soldier was killed
during one of these incidents.
Meanwhile,
8 soldiers suffered injuries in AP mine explosions occurred
in the Palamoddai, Mundumurippu, and Periyamadhu areas during
the day. Soldiers engaged in clearing operations in the
Periyamadhu area uncovered 4 claymore mines.
On
the Welioya front, troops had daylong clashes in the North
of Janakapura and Kiriibbanwewa areas and claimed 8 terrorists
were killed, 15 others wounded and 15 more were either killed
or wounded. Also, one soldier was killed and 4 others wounded
during these clashes. Troops removed 31 AP mines and found
7 hand grenades during search operations.
On
the Mannar front, five soldiers suffered injuries due to
an LTTE attack in the Nedunkandal area last morning.
Meanwhile,
on the Jaffna theatre of battle , troops attacked LTTE positions
in the Ponnar , Kilaly and Muhamalai areas during morning
hours and claimed one terrorists was killed and 3 others
were either killed and wounded. A soldier was injured during
a clash occurred in the Muhamalai area.
Counter
terror offensives are continuing .
