During the fierce battle erupted between security forces and LTTE terrorists in general area Alankulam in Mannar front in the early hours this morning, June 9, 9 LTTE terrorists were killed, the latest report received from the warfront said. Three bodies of slain female LTTE cadres were also found following the battle, sources added.

Hours long gun battle began around 4.45 a.m and troops launched massive fire power on five LTTE locations in the enemy defence line till 8.00 p.m, MCNS said.

Two army soldiers have made their ultimate sacrifice and another 15 suffered injuries during the gun battle, the report further said.
