Australian Dav Whatmore, who was interviewed by a Pakistan Cricket Board panel on Thursday is spurred by the challenge to coach Pakistan team after the World Cup disaster.

The former Sri Lanka and Bangladesh coach was interviewed for two hours as he happens to be one of three possible replacements for late Bob Woolmer. Fellow Aussies Richard Done and Geoff Lawson have already been interviewed earlier this week.

"I am confident given the chance I would do my best," the 53-year-old Whatmore, who was initially linked to coaching India, was quoted as saying to the BBC.

"Every team poses different challenges and Pakistan would be a challenge, but this is a great opportunity working with a good board and a good team so I am eager on this.

"Pakistan is a top team and my priority will be to help them improve and produce the best results," Whatmore added.

Whatmore will meet the Pakistan team, who are currently training in Pakistan's Abbottabad for the July tour of Scotland.

"A good team learns from its mistakes and Pakistan will have to do that after a disappointing World Cup," he said.

The PCB panel is due to submit a report to the board in the next few days before a final decision is expected in July.
