Thurstan College Aquatic Club, in association with the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union is reviving the Mercantile Swimming Championship for the President's Challenge Trophy which is donated by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the most distinguished old boy of Thurstan College. It will henceforth be an annual feature. This year's championship will be held on September 9, at the Thurstan College Swimming Pool Complex, which is a donation from another distinguished old boy, Graetian Gunawardhana and is open to the mercantile or private sector. In the picture, the President is seen handing over the President's Challenge Trophy at a ceremony held at Temple Trees recently, where many old boys of Thurstan College and key members of the organizing committee, all past Thurstanites, were present.
