Minister of Mass Media and Information Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said today (21) that it was evidently proven that the Government is running steady and is not worried about Members of Parliament Mangala Samaraweera and Sripathi Sooriyarachchi joining the opposition.

Government was able to pass seven Supplementary estimates with a very comfortable 20-vote majority at the Parliament last Tuesday (19). It is a clear indication of the strength of the government, Minister said. The total additional expenditure demanded by 7 Ministries including recently established Ministries was Rs. 660 millions.

“Sri Lanka Freedom Party is a very democratic institute. It is a people's party. Therefore we as a party are not worried about two of our Parliament members joining the opposition,” Minister Yapa added.

Minister pointed out that similarly seventeen UNP MPs have joined the Government.
“We must remember that these issues are not new things in the political history of Sri Lanka,” Minister said.
