Police acting on civilian tip off found a claymore mine weighing 7kg at Maligawatte, in the Colombo city limits this morning. The Media Center for National Security (MCNS) said that the bomb was found on the Baron Jayathilake Mawatha around 9.a.m.

A school, Srimath Baron Jayathilake Vidyalaya, is in the very close proximity of this place and security forces personnel recovered the bomb placed near a light post under a small undergrowth.

Speaking to media, Military Spokesman Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe said that they suspect the bomb has been placed targeting STF personnel as this is one of the routes that some of those officers frequently use.

The Special Task Force bomb disposal squad defused the bomb.
