UNP

At a Media conference at the UNP Media unit today (19 Jun) , UNP Parliamentarian Lakshman Kiriella referring to the muddle-headed thinking of the Government  over the Tamil evacuation issue reiterated that those responsible for this fiasco must resign forthwith. The country has been brought to abject shame and disgrace in the opinion of the International community. Sri Lanka's President and those who engineered it must hang their heads in shame for betraying their ignorance of the basic provisions of the constitution, he said  Within 24 hours, all the Newspapers, local  and  foreign , carried headline News against it , because this action was so obviously repulsive ,retrogressive and illegal , although the Govt . Feigned ignorance, he added.

The subsequent apology by the Prime Minister contradicted by Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle in the same Cabinet, and wild accusations by Gotabaya Rajapakse, the Defence Secretary against the International community only show the dissensions, conflicts and disputes within the Govt.  It is little wonder therefore this country has been brought to such a sorry plight because the Govt. cannot maintain law and order within its own rank and file, he asserted.

Even the congress of Religions which met has condemned the action of the Govt. and said that those responsible for this action must be brought to book and punished..

The Supreme Court too has given a ruling that the Govt. was wrong then it is the Govt.'s duty to take action against the wrongdoers for this serious error. As the whole nation's interests are at stake. Sri Lanka is now faced with the imminent threat of International isolation. This is the first time Sri Lanka was posed with such a threat, he lamented.

He assured that the UNP will not allow this issue to lie low.  It will agitate and demonstrate until the culprits behind this ill-conceived action are punished or sacked, he concluded.
