COLOMBO: Government has decided to accord a funeral for late Vidya Jyothi Professor V. K. Samaranayake with full State patronage. The funeral will now take place under full State patronage at the Independence Square, Colombo today.
According to Professor P. W. Epasinghe, Presidential Advisor and the acting Chairman of Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA), the President has advised the Public Administration and Home Affairs Ministry to accord a funeral with State patronage for the late Professor.
According to the Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs, the Government has taken this decision as an appreciation for the services rendered by the late Professor Samaranayake for the ICT Industry in Sri Lanka.
According to Chairman of the Funeral Committee, Dr. Ruwan Weerasingha, Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister Karu Jayasuriya chaired a meeting yesterday with the members of the funeral committee to discuss the funeral arrangements of the late Professor.
Accordingly, the funeral of late Professor V.K. Samaranayake will now take place at 4.00 p.m. today at the Independence Square.
Professor V. K. Samaranayake who was the late Chairman of Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka passed away last Wednesday while on an official visit to Sweden. |
