Member of Parliment of the United People's Freedom Alliance, Priyankara Jayaratne was unanimously appointed as the Deputy Speaker of Parliament this morning (08).

He filled the vacancy fell vacant upon the resignation of Former Deputy Speaker, Geethajana Gunawardena.

Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake proposed Mr. Jayaratne's name before the Parliament for the post of Deputy Speaker.

Mr. Priyankara Jayaratne was elected to Parliament for the Puttlam district.
