On it's 15th post-tsunami visit to Sri Lanka AuSLMAT found
time to visit the orphange attached to the Little Flower
Convent at Tangalle on Friday 4th July.
The orphanage has nine tsunami orphans and will shortly
move in to a new two storey building which will accomodate
close to fifty orphans most of whom suffered severely in
the Asian Tsunami of Boxing Day 2004.
Father Thomas Kuriacose has been the Jesuit priest behind
this project which is nearing completion. The photographs
show the nine girls and the two sisters who will look after
these children.
AuSLMAT has offered to be the medical team that will visit
and look after the medical needs of this orphanage. Dr.
Sian Hughes and AuSLMAT do support an orphanage in Moratuwa.
We recently had a child from there brought to the Karapitiya
hospital for a consultation. Dr. Jennifer Johns and Professor
Sam Menahem did an echocardiogram on this girl at the echo
clinic at Karapitiya on Tuesday 1st July.
AuSLMAT is proud to be associated with these humantarian
projects in Sri Lanka.
