Venerable
Bogoda Seelawimala, the Chief incumbent of the London
Buddhist Vihara said that he was glad that Sri Lanka has
appointed a former senior Supreme Court Judge who is also
versatile international jurist and a person who is having
a deep knowledge in Buddhism as Sri Lanka’s London

He
was addressing a religious ceremony to bless Sri Lanka
High Commissioner Chandra Nihal Jayasinghe at 13 Hyde
Park Gardens London when he assumed duties as the country’s
envoy in the United Kingdom.
Addressing
diplomats and other officers at the chancery Venerable
Seelawimala Nayaka Thera said at a time when the country
was facing a crisis when enemies of the country were trying
to destroy the image of the country he was happy the President
has appointed an intellectual who is professionally trained
to listen to all sides and give a judicious verdict in
any crisis.
Venerable
Seelawimala along with Venerable Thavalama Bandula and
Venerable Wiloye Wimalajothi chanted pirith and blessed
High Commissioner Jayasinghe and madam Jayasinghe.
Thereafter,
the new High Commissioner and and his wife and the staff
were feted at a kevum and Kiribath party.
High
Commissioner Chandra Nihal Jayasinghe, who is a law graduate
from the Colombo University passed as an advocate in 1972
and joined the Attorney General’s Department as
a state counsel. He became the Deputy Solicitor General
in 1994. Appointed as a judge of the Court of Appeal in1997
he became the President of the Court of Appeal in 2002.
Appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court he worked as
a senior presiding judge , sometimes acting as the Chief
justice until his retirement in February this year. Religious
ceremony was conducted by Rev Bogoda Silawimala Thero,
Chief Sanga Nayaka of Great Briton and Head of London
Buddhist Vihara with Rev. Thawalama Bandula Thero and
Wiloya Wimalajothi Thero.
He
has also worked as the judge of the Supreme Court of the
Extra Ordinary Chamber of the Courts of Cambodia constituted
by the United Nations.
