LTTE terrorists were reported killed and 30 others wounded
during fighting erupted between troops and LTTE ahead of
the Wanni and Northern battlefronts on Tuesday (July 1).
In addition, 2 soldiers laid their lives while 30 others
received injuries in the confrontations, security sources
said.
At
the Jaffna theater of battle a soldier has received injuries
due to an IED explosion in general area Nagarkovil, at around
7a.m.
Meanwhile,
at the Vavuniya front troops confirmed that 17 LTTE terrorists
were killed and 15 wounded in separate confrontations with
LTTE in general areas North of Periyamadhu, Palamoddai,
Navvi and Ampaddankulama. According to military sources,
3 terrorists were killed when troops sprung an ambush at
an LTTE movement in general area Northeast of Ampaddankulama,
at around 1.45p.m. During a subsequent search operation,
conducted troops also uncovered a T-56 assault riffle and
25 AP mine fuses, security sources said. Also, a soldier
was killed and 9 others suffered injuries during the confrontations
with LTTE yesterday, the sources added.
On
the Welioya battlefront, 20 soldiers received injuries during
the confrontations with LTTE including 5 others reportedly
wounded due to AP mine explosions. A soldier also laid his
life in the clashes, according to military reports. The
clashes were reported in general areas North of Janakapura,
Kokuthudduvai and North of Kiriibbanwewa security sources
said, adding that troops have also captured 7 LTTE bunkers
in an offensive launched in Kokkuthduvai.

mines, 3 claymore mines and 2 IEDs were found in the area
during a subsequent search operations, military said. According
to finalized reports, 7 LTTE terrorists were killed, 16
wounded in addition to 3 others also believed killed or
seriously wounded in the confrontations on Tuesday. Separately,
troops removed 76AP mines and 8 IEDs in a search operation
conducted North of Janakapura, according to security sources.
Also,
35AP mines were removed by security forces who were engaged
in a search and clearing operation in general area Dangaeliyadda,
Batticaloa yesterday at 4.p.m.
