Troops
continuing their liberation operation in the Wanni region
yesterday (July 28) reported that 33 terrorists were killed
while 34 others wounded and 11 more were either killed or
wounded. Also, 3 soldiers laid down their lives in the battlefield
while 8 others suffered injuries.
Troops
of Task Force 2 operating at the right flank of the combined
Vavuniya- Mannar battlefront had several clashes with the
terrorists in Navvi area and claimed 9 terrorists were killed
12 others were wounded.
Troops
attacked a terror bunker around 4 in the evening and claimed
to have killed 3 terrorists and wounded 8 others. One soldier
suffered injuries in this incident.
In
a separate confrontation occurred in the same area around
4.20 PM troops claimed 3 terrorists were killed and 4 others
were wounded. A soldier suffered injuries due to an Anti
Personnel (AP) mine explosion during the incident. In a
similar confrontation occurred around 1 PM troops claimed
2 terrorists were killed. Meanwhile, a sniper deployed in
the area confirmed shooting down of one LTTE cadre around
14.20 PM.
In
the general area Kuttimulai a soldier of 57 suffered injuries
due to an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) explosion last
afternoon. This injured was air lifted to the Anuradhapura
military hospital.
Meanwhile,
troops of 56 division operate separately from main battlefronts
in Vavuniya, lunched an assault at an LTTE bunker located
in the Navatkulma area around 11 AM. Troops claimed one
terrorist was killed and found 3 AP mines during the clearing
operations. In a similar incident occurred in Vilakkvittakulam
area around 2.40 PM troops claimed 2 terrorists were killed.
Troops
operating under Task Force 1 continued their march towards
Vellankulama along the left flank of the Vavuniya- Mannar
combined front engaged indirect fire at the terror targets
located North of Iluppaikkaddavai last forenoon . According
to the details received from both ground and technical sources,
8 terrorists were killed and 5 wounded in these attacks.
On
the Welioya front troops of 59 division had daylong clashes
with the terrorists in the areas North of Janakapura, Kiriibbanwewa,
and Kokkuthuduvai areas and claimed 13 terrorists were killed
, 17 others wounded and 11 more were either killed or wounded.
Also, 3 soldiers were killed and 5 others were wounded during
these clashes.
Meanwhile,
troops engaged in clearing operations in the area removed
61 AP mines and 7 IEDs during the day.
