Tiger
terrorist organization has declared a unilateral ceasefire
from 26th July to 4th August on behalf of the forthcoming
SAARC summit to be held in Colombo next week.
A statement issued by tiger media spokesman Rasiah Illantheriam
states, "Our movement is glad to inform that it will
observe a unilateral ceasefire that is devoid of military
actions during the period of the SAARC conference from
26th July to 4th August and give our cooperation for the
success of the conference."
However, Head of Sri Lanka's Peace Secretariat Prof. Rajiv
Wijesekera says tiger organization had declared 'ceasefires'
several times but they have not kept to their promises
and used the ceasefire to strengthen themselves. He further
said if the tiger organization was genuinely interested
in a ceasefire and peace they should enter a disarming
process that would build confidence.
Some analysts are of the view that India had influenced
the tiger terrorists to avoid confrontation during the
summit for which Indian Prime Minister is due to take
part.
