Eastern youth to be recruited for 500 Korean jobs

Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Keheliya RambukwellaMinister of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Keheliya Rambukwella said today (21) that steps have been taken to provide 500 employment opportunities in Korea for youth from the Eastern Province.
The selected batch will be provided with a preparatory language course prior to their departure.

Minister Rambukwella added that decision was taken following a discussion he had with the Secretary of the Eastern Provincial Council.

So far, the Foreign Employment Bureau has established two vocational training centres in the province with the objective of assisting the masses and educating them for targeted jobs in the region or elsewhere.

The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Healthcare and Nutrition have already recruited employees from these areas to serve in the respective fields in relevant institutions attached to the Ministry, the Minister noted. "The Police Department have also taken on 375 Tamil-speaking recruits to serve in the region," he added.

Minister Rambukwella went on to say that a large number of foreign and local investors have expressed their willingness to invest in the region in response to the Government's request.
