The
driver of the passenger bus that came under the LTTE attack
last Friday at Galge on the Buttala-Kataragama Road, is
to be rewarded for his bravery.
Police
Spokesman, Ranjith Gunasekara said if the driver stopped
the bus, the terrorists would have massacred the rest
of the passengers. The driver despite being injured, drove
the bus to the hospital.
However,
the driver managed to avert a major disaster despite his
injuries. Four passengers died and 23 others injured in
the attack.
The
spokesman also said that he would discuss the amount to
be rewarded to the driver with IGP Jayantha Wickremeratne.
“Police would also write to the Ceylon Transport
Board Chairman requesting a promotion or any other incentive
to the driver,” he said.
Police
and the security forces that launched a massive search
operation in the area in the aftermath of the incident
arrested four Tamil and two Sinhala young men on suspicion.
Police said the suspects failed to prove their identity.
