12 LTTE terrorists killed, 19 wounded in Wanni battles

At least 12 LTTE terrorists were killed, 19 wounded and 15 others reported either killed or seriously injured at the Wanni battlefront on Friday (July 11), during confrontations with security forces.

According to finalized military reports, 5 terrorists were killed and 13 others wounded in confrontation ensued between troops and LTTE at the Vavuniya battlefront. In addition 9 soldiers also had received injures in the confrontations. The clashes were reported from general areas at Maruthamadu, Ilamaruthankulama, Ampaddankulama, Paleiveddimodai, Naddankandal and Navvi.

Meanwhile, a soldier sustained injuries during an anti-personnel (AP) mine explosion in general area Puthukkamam at around 1.40p.m.

At the Welioya battlefront, in general area North of Kiriibbanwewa troops engaged in clearing operations removed 267 AP mines and 10 IEDs, according to reports. Separately, troops killed 7 LTTE terrorists, injuring 6 others during confrontations ahead of LTTE defences at Kiriibbanwewa and Janakapura areas. 6 soldiers were also wounded in the clashes, security sources said.

Also troops engaged in clearing operations at Dangeliyadda general area, Batticaloa removed 30 AP mines, security sources further added.
